coaching program templateReady to launch your signature high-ticket offer, but not sure how to structure a group coaching program?

In this post, you will learn about a tried and tested coaching program template that you can follow, as well as some best practices when mapping out your group coaching format

Let’s dive right in.

What Clients Want from a Coaching Program

coaching program templateWhen people invest in a coaching program, what they are looking for is a formula, a method, a system, or a blueprint.

In other words, they need a roadmap that will get them the result they want.

This is why mapping out the client journey is a crucial part when planning your group coaching format.

You see, one of the most common misconceptions about coaching programs is that clients are looking for a ton of information.

But the truth is, they are not looking for hour-long videos. Neither do they don’t want to go through a time-consuming curriculum.

As for you, the coach, that’s great news isn’t it? You don’t want to create a ton of content either!

Your clients are busy and they want results. And they are well aware that they can achieve the results they want by taking action.

Ultimately, the goal of your coaching program is not just to teach and share information but to help your clients implement what they’re learning.

Mapping out your group coaching format

Coaching programs vary in length. Most often, coaches run their programs for 4 weeks, 6 weeks, or even 12 weeks, depending on the complexity of their solution.

Keep in mind that when mapping out your group coaching format, it’s important to have that foundation of what your client’s biggest problem is and how you’re going to solve it.

The Ideal Coaching Program Length

As a coach who has delivered hundreds of programs for the past two decades, I’ve found that the ideal program length is an 8-week coaching program.

I have delivered programs that lasted anywhere from 4 weeks to 12 months.

Here are the top 3 reasons why I believe an 8-week curriculum should be part of your signature coaching program template:

  1. It’s a perfect amount of time to go through a series of steps and get a specific result (most people can complete the program without feeling overwhelmed or burnt out from the process)
  2. It’s easier to sell a shorter program, because it’s a shorter commitment (and you can offer it multiple times a year allowing you to leverage your marketing efforts)
  3. It’s easier to create a shorter program (it’s possible to create your program fast and easy, without spending months developing your content!)

Your program should allow participants to experience a result or transformation that can be achieved in 8 weeks.

The question is, can you create a coaching program that’s longer than 8 weeks?

The answer is yes, absolutely!

But your goal is to get your first coaching program done fast and easy, so you can start offering it and getting new clients. You can always expand it or create another program later.

How to Structure a Group Coaching Program

As you decide on the structure of your group coaching program, keep in mind that it needs to include these 3 components:

  1. Information
  2. Implementation
  3. Coaching

Let’s take a look at this simple model for an 8-week coaching program:

Information. This refers to your training material and includes the steps you are taking your clients to achieve the transformation they are looking for.

Implementation. This refers to the tools and exercises, or in other words, the homework assignments your clients need to submit.

Coaching. This refers to the accountability and support your clients will get as part of the group coaching program, which can include live coaching calls. You can offer personalized feedback, coaching through challenges that come up during implementation, offer opportunities to practice and develop new skills, habits, or mindset, and community support if delivered in a group setting.

My Tried and Tested Coaching Program Template

There’s no right or wrong way to structure a coaching program.

What matters is that you are walking your clients through the steps needed to achieve the outcomes you have promised.

With that being said, sometimes all you need is a proven coaching program template so you can easily map out your own program.

Sample 8-Week Group Coaching Program Template

This is exactly the same format that I use to map out my own programs:

Week 1: Orientation.

During the first week, you will hold an Orientation call, where you’ll tell your clients what they can expect and how to make the most out of your program.

Remind them about the results they’ll experience if they implement this program.

I usually tell people that they should attend as many live coaching calls as possible and that they should do their weekly homework assignment.

I also share the upcoming call schedule and show them where they can access the training modules each week.

And if you’re delivering it as a group coaching program, you can do a meet and greet during the orientation call as well.

Week 8: Final Q&A and Upsell.

The last call will be the final Q&A and wrap-up, celebrations, and an invitation to take the next step with you.

Perhaps you want to invite them to your next program or 1-on-1 coaching.

So now that you have the first and last weeks, you only need to have 6 steps or topics to teach in your coaching program.

Now that we have the Orientation and the Wrap-up Calls covered, what’s in between?

For Weeks 2-7, you’re going to focus on the meat and potatoes of your program, which is your CONTENT.

Your content for Weeks 2-7 will cover the 6 steps, topics, concepts, or milestones required to solve the problem or achieve the goal your clients are focusing on.

Each step should take you less than 15 minutes to teach and you only need 6 topics.

If you don’t think you can deliver your program in 6 steps, you may need to shrink the scope of the problem you’re trying to solve.

Think of it as an introduction to whatever you’re teaching, because on the live coaching calls you’ll be able to expand your material as you address all of their fears, obstacles, and reasons why they’re not taking action.
